M65 with Sn 2013am

Hi. I was determined to image last night, moon or no moon. I has just heard of a new Supernova and was keen to give it a go.
I had a challenging time processing these as the Moon was not that far away from the triplet and was limiting my exp length ( that and the alignment was off) and i am enjoying imaging galaxies lately

500D-NEQ6 pro-SW 8'' f5 Newt. Total of 58 min consisting of a few 180 sec, a few 120 sec at iso 800 and the rest 30 sec iso 1600. Darks and flats of unequal exp and iso used.
Cheers.
Steve.

Beautiful photo. Congratulations to the photographer.

Nice one Stephen,

I'm a little disappointed as I imaged this galaxy on the 25th Jan and there was no trace of this SN......

All a matter of timing I suppose.

I have overlaid my image of M65 onto yours to show the comparison between the SN as it is now and the galaxy as imaged on 25th Jan at 2:30am onwards AEST.

I am not sure if there is a little bit of brightening in the area or not?

I hope you don't mind, I thought it was an interesting comparison.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris, nope don't mind a bit. It's great to see comparisons. I'm no expert but it looks like there is something there in your image in the exact same position just very faint.
I used unsharp mask to sharpen it a bit ( prob went too far) and i found just doing that brightened the areas along with the general level adjustments.
I would like to add to the data as always and make things a bit easier to process.
Here is the reference images i used
