Simple hands free map holder

The map holder I fashioned has proved convenient and simple to use. Best of all it is hands and lap free. Perhaps the idea maybe of use to others.

It consists of my son’s now unused music stand, a circular piece of 3mm stiff plastic sheet that was the backing for an old advertising sign and two bulldog clips. Corflute or any other stiff waterproof material will do. The diameter of the circular disc just exceeds the length of the diagonal of my map folder. Two cut outs allow the bulldog clips to clasp the map folder. Additional larger cut outs could be made to accommodate smaller map sizes. Total cost zero.

As you can see, clipping one’s maps to the circular disc allows the maps to be easily orientated and remain stable at any angle to give a best fit with the sky at the time. The complete stand is light, stable and easy to move around.

Cheers

Steve.

Steve,

That's not a bad idea. You can have it close to the scope EP you're looking through. I usually plonk them on a table and they get way too much dew even in a plastic folder.

Glad to see my maps are getting some use.

Regards, Rob
