USB Power Surge help!

I keep getting this USB Power Surge error. It just started happening recently.

I have about 6 USB devices plugged into my PC and the error doesn't help identifying which device is giving the error. I checked device manager and there were no warnings or errors. I tested all the USB devices and they all still work.

No USB device is failing, I just keep getting this surge error.

Anyone know how to fix this? Running Windows 7 64bit prof.

Thanks.

I have seen this error when using a port extender (trying to get six USB ports out of one) and I plugged in something that tried to draw too much current. In that case getting a powered hub was the answer. The previous answers will reset the hub (which is generally required) but may not solve the problem.

Powered hubs are great.

I had an 8 port one, so could leave all my devices plugged in and charging, and then just connect the hub to my laptop when I needed to download something from the memory card reader.

I agree with Danack, but a cheap 6 port powered hub and try a few devices in it.

Have you tried plugging in one at a time to see when it fails? or what device is causing it to fail?

E.G Plug in Keyboard and mouse, then a camera, then your printer, then each other item until it fails.

Opened my PC case because this problem started happening after I cleaned it out.

Had another look today just to make sure all connections were in and they were.

No more surge errors which is really bizarre. Thank god its gone!

the only other think i can think of is a Pin inside the Female USB could be shorting on the metal guide. If you find a short, turn the PC off before attempting to straighten it
