Attaching a digital camera to a dob

Hey guys,

I'm just wondering how people usually go about using digital cameras with their telescopes. Id like to get some avi's through the eyepiece, but when i do it just holding with my hand, the camera shakes too much and registax hates it.

I've got a t-ring for my 400d, but id also like something that will hold my regular digi cam infront of the eye piece. Im making something at the moment but am wondering if theres an easier way. Id rather something that can be made as opposed to something bought as I've been getting in trouble lately for buying too much :p

Any help would be great,
Cheers,
Andrew.

I know this sounds crude it when I first tries this I use a combination of cardboard tubes and rubber bands to secure the point and shoot camera and registrax accepted it no problem. A nice still avi file.

Cheers Russ, that's the type of thing I'll be trying while I save up some money in the ol' astro account.

I did what you are asking as well in the beginning. In my case I had an early Leica digital P&S, with a fixed lens, which moved in and out on startup, and when zoomed. It was simplest to use an old 1.25" to 2" adaptor, and mount a solid "L" shaped bracket to the adaptor. The camera was mounted on the bottom side of the L shaped piece. So then, turn the camera on, select the correct distance from the eyepiece (which fitted inside the 1.25" section of the adaptor) and focus.
Rudimentary, but in those days it was all I could afford anyway. I did many a solar and lunar shot with it. Worked like a charm. Ah the good old days.

Just received the device from Graham today, thank you so much again I'm very excited to give this a try. Unfortunately it looks as though it's going to be a pretty cloudy night here in adl.
