In Between the Frames

Hi all

To those that use there DSLR's for imaging, i read in one of the astronomy mags that you should wait some minutes in between shots.
This is to let the sensor cool some, perticularly on warmer nights.

Do other user do this, or is there some other magic tricks i should be aware of.

I suppose that this would depend on the length of your exposures. I normally have a 10 second space when using exposures up to about 90 seconds, I have no amp glow then, but over that, even with a 20 - 30 second spacing I do get amp glow in the lower right hand corner. Admittedly I have yet to go over 300 seconds with the 350D (unmodded).

My exposures are usually no longer than 2 minutes, and i have been waiting about half of that until i do the next one.

So i suppose that is sufficient time to let the sensor cool a bit, i feel the noise is fairly well controlled by that

Interesting, I would have thought that this was the role of taking 'Darks and Bias'. Darks the same length as your exposure to show this excess noise and the Bias on the shortest exposure to show up the random noise so it could be subtracted later on when the images are combined. Could be wrong though.
