C8 Resurrection

Did this one a while ago but i don't think I put it up for show and tell.
The C8 OTA needed all the paint striped and when I did I quite liked the bare metal finish on the tube and thought I would give the hammertone green paint a try to go better with the Astrotecnik mount.
The Astrotecnik mount just needed everything reversed including putting the motor on the other side for SH use and a grease change , great mount very smooth and very low PE.

Thanks
Zane

Lokks great, Zane! The mount is unfamiliar to me, but certainly looks robust.

Excellent Zane, those old C8 are a great scope and certainly worth looking after.

Love the paint work and resto job. Very cool. Where did you dig all those old SCTs from. Do you have any others (vintage) in the work?

Thanks , Just seem to be a magnet for them , no others in the works .
Speaking of Vintage scopes , Lars loaned me a book Celestron the Early Years , I'm now dreaming of a Vintage C16 or C22 sound like a very well made scopes but probably will never even see one , they stopped making them in the early 70s
Just have to stick with the classic orange jobs.

Thanks
Zane

No overcoat so it needs a polish now and then.

Old celestrons

They come up occasionally on astromart. Well worth keeping an eye on.

That's a great book. Did you read all the interviews? I corresponded a lot with Robert Piekiel past two years when I rebuilt mine.

Haven't got to that bit yet , the books so heavy that I can only hold it for an hour at a time , I'll have arms like Popeye by the end of it.

Lars must have printed it out then? I got the CD. Maybe they had a printed versions before?

In the interview there's a lot of technical details about how these scope works. What I liked most about all the vintage ones is the way the primary mounting worked in the C16 and early C10 which helped me working out my mods. Great shots of the inside of the scopes and the articles are very detailed. Robert is also a top bloke. Very approachable and a mine of information.

He has another book about mirror figuring in SCTs, which is well over my head but very interesting too.

Now you're just showing off Zane !!!!!

That is fantastic, love the colour scheme too. Post a couple more pics of the RA drive setup. Is that the same gear size as the one I now have?

Yeah I should have shown it off for St Patrick's Day
I'll take a couple of close up pics and yes I think the gear is the same size.
