QHY8 Eta Ha

Hi,
This was more of a test with the moon at 94% last night, so tried some Ha with my QHY8 OSC and an 8inch F4.
stack of 4 x 5min Ha subs. This is a screenshot from Startools as I'm still evaluating the software, but do like it a lot. so will be getting it soon.

I had major issues with flexure and elongation, but am slowly getting it under control.
Ha with an OSC is challenging but still better than nothing.
comments welcome.

That didn't work too badly, Alastair. I presume you'll ultimately be going for some longer exposures?

Hi Rick
Yes, now that my star elongation issues are sorted, I'll be aiming for 20 to 40 min subs with both the 8"F4 and 10"F4. The OSC requires much longer exposures in Ha, but the F4 helps reduce that time.
That and I will try and learn Ha blending with rgb data that I aim to get from dark skies. Not that easily done with the current weather.
I did a 20 min sub of ngc2476 but it was quite small in the FOV of the 8 inch. I was however very pleased to see that my PA was quite good and stars round to the edge.
I tried out the eqascom script for the ccd pa method and it works very well. No need to hold down the e/w button.

Cheers

Nice shot Alistair.

The QHY8 with Ha still brings out a lot of detail.

Ross.
