Wanted - Pier

I have a Losmandy G-11 that I want to build a Pier for. I prefer a pier that can simply be bolted to my cement observing pad, as opposed to one that needs to be dug in. In saying that I'm still open to the ones that can be dug into the ground.

The Pier doesn't have to be a Losmandy Pier because I can modify the top of it to suit.

If anyone out there has a Pier they want to offload / sell, I'm all ears.

Cheers

Ray

Hi Ray,

Go to the hardware store and get 6 bags of ready mix. Concrete pier is much more stable than metal, doesn't vibrate anywhere near as much. But if you want something more portable in case you are going to move around then steel filled with sand.

Ray,
I built mine (and a mobile wheeled version as well) from 6" steel tube. On the lower end I welded an 8" square of 4 or 5 mm steel flat. When I poured the concrete in the ground I placed 4 bolts with the threads just sticking out of the concrete. When set I simply bolted the flat and tube onto the concrete and secured it via the 4 galvanised bolts. I kept the concrete a littel lower than the surrounding grass etc, so in the event of a shift I can simply cut/grind off the threads, and take the flat/tube with me. On the top I have used a G-11, a Tak EM200, and now an AP600E, all with some form of adaptor plate.
Simple, cheap, and effective.
