A lovely Lemmon tail

Well I can't match Peter Ward's superb tail detail, but I am pretty happy with this result. Especially given that much of the weekend we were battling high cloud and extensive smoke haze. Last night (Sunday 17th) was the best of the three but still a little affected by haze.

Agree, That is one pretty mean Lemmon Phil, The tail is one of the brightest Ive seen also, speshly for this scale, A popper Rendition I say

Was the 6D taking widefield images, which is why you used the 40D?

You guessed it Mike.

The 6D was attached to a 300mm lens on Sunday night.. it was on the 200mm lens Fri and Sat nights but the skies were not so good (really bad on Friday). The Tak can't fill the full frame with tight stars so made more sense this way round, and the cooling on the 40D I figured would give a better end result given ambient temp of 30 degrees, but increasingly I think I might be wrong about that.. the new sensor might more than make up for the cooling. The spectrum mod is a disadvantage for this kind of image too. Haven't looked at the shots from the 6D yet though..

That's a great image Phil - in fact the best that I've seen. You've captured very fine tail structure.
