A Lemmon twist in the tail.

I had a go at this with the FSQ106 and unmodded D800 on Friday night. Without thinking too deeply I set PHD guiding off with the comet nucleus as the target - I'm not sure if it helped or hindered to be honest.
Unfortunately, due to Clive and Barry rather enthusiastically setting up a 12", a 16" and then a 28" next to me I lost about 30 minutes worth of data from the hour from the odd wayward light beam. Grrr.
Exposures were 2 minutes at 3200 ISO, and I used the cameras internal card to minimise download time.
Processing was done by stacking on star-aligned subs with a very tight rejection criteria, and then using Pixinisght's cometalign tool to re-register the subs and stack. Minor stretching of both stacks, and then they were added. The result is not as good as I'd have liked, but I'll have another go at it soon. More data would have been nice!

Andrew.

Nice. Different from many other shots of the tail, so unique!

Nice one Andrew!

Agree on your call about PHD guiding on this comet. Think I'll guide off stars, certainly a lot easier to process.

Cheers,

Justin.
