Which is your favourite nebula?
We all have likes and dislikes according to aesthetics and other persuasions. What is your favourite - and if you like you most disliked - nebula, and for what reason? Can be diffuse, planetary, SNR or dark.
My personal all-time favourite, and the one I LOVE imaging is M78. A fascinating shape, wonderful dark areas superimposed with reflection glow and H-a and OIII regions.
Basically, not overly fond of just the H-a diffuse nebulae - I need the contrast of shapes and colours

I have a love/hate relationship with NGC3918 (Blue Planetary). It's a beauty to find but finding it is always the problem I have I am constantly forgetting the star hop then having to re-learn it all over again!
The two that stand out in my mind as objects that absolutely gob smacked me would have to be Tarantula Nebula and first viewing of the Orion Nebula. Holy moly I was so lucky to have pristine, very dark skies for my first viewing of both and borrowing some better eyepieces so I was just absolutely speechless!

A tough question I would have to say NGC 7293 (Helix Nebula) -- haven't imaged it yet but hoping to have a go in the coming weeks. Tarantula is a close contender!

On reflection [pun intended], I think I love the Horsehead, because of
the challenge it presents, to get better and better images of it,
[unfortunately, all the time knowing that I'm never going to manage
anything like some of the fabulous images I've seen.]

M57, because when available it is easy to find and spectacular, so I like showing it to schoolkids if possible, and to other campers on weeks away.
And M42 for the same reasons.
Cheers

I like M17, it has high surface brightness, M27 also.

Since most nights aren't spent under the stars I think Astro_Bot has picked it.
Otherwise Carina. Always Carina

Even though I'm not an imager, I absolutely love looking at most of the pics the folks post here.
However, the one stand out image that has haunted me ever since I first saw it was the Sombrero Galaxy. It's been featured on APOD more than once, but this is the one that got me all giddy...

It's just stunning beyond words imo. Hope you folks like it too.
Edit:- whoops, just realised the thread is nebs not galaxies. Sorry!
Have I mentioned the Sombrero nebula recently?

NGC6188. A discordant ribbon floating through freespace.
