Just a heads up if you are after a RED LED head Lamp

BCF have on special Solution X 5 LED Headlamp.
4 white LED
1 RED night vision LED

Operates on 3xAAA batteries (included)

2 for $20 (or $14.95 each)

[IMO: This seems a good price as similar in Woolies sells for near $30ea]

DISCLAIMER: I have not used this brand previously and can not guarantee quality.

If it is a slide left for RED, Right for white, it should be good.
If it is a toggle through RED, White, OFF, - this can be annoying.

I got one of the Woolies versions of this and removed the white Leds and replaced them with red leds, problem solved. Also after this I had 2 different red led intensities to choose from..

There are white light led head torches on English eBay with a thick slide red plastic window. When the red window slides up it is a reddy-pink in complete darkness. A touch of red nail polish or two small celophane lenses makes it a true deep, dim red. I have glued the red plastic window in so it cannot slip thereby exposing the white leds. I find the headband light very handy.The head lights are $20 AUD posted.

Thanks Allan. 2 for $20 is very cheap.
Officeworks also do a couple of cheap models, $15, by Varta.
I don't know how the red/white switching works.

My headlamps are Varta.
They are ideal for my use.
Slide left for 1 x RED
Slide right for 4 x White (good for pack up time).

Just went and bought 2 but the red is a flasher with no just on setting in the shop in Mackay don't know if different shops have different types it didn't indicate on the packet that it was a flasher only for red. And the button on this on isn't a slider switch it goes to white first then to flashing red. Which brings me to a rant I hate these packets that you have to cut open if the product is not right or not what it is advertised to be they can't just stick it back on the shelf rant over now.

You shouldn't have to go down this path as the package didn't detail the functions clearly, but ........

If the red led is a flashing unit it could be swapped out for the non flashing type. It will be a little harder if the flashing function is built into the circuit elsewhere. Might be a bit of fun to muck around with on a rainy afternoon.

Just got back with my two BCF lights only to discover the red mode flashes.
Wish I'd checked back on this thread. I'll see if I can get a refund tomorrow.

simple fix, just use a red permanent marker and colour in the LEDS red, its what i do to torches to make them red, works a treat (just dont try it on a cree bulb. lol)

or just return them...

I'll be returning mine.

I've used red nail varnish (my wife's) on a torch and it works ok but the idea of having a hands free red, and white when needed, eg, dropping something, seems to cover all needs. Whether it works in practice is another matter. I managed to cut my head open on a focuser locking screw recently, so anything could happen!

Anyone thinking Energizer?
The previous Energizer model had the left/right slider switch but the latest one
has the cycling single switch which rules it out for me.
Also the switch on the latest one needs a ridiculous amount of force to operate.

Took my BCF ones back and dropped into Officeworks en route. They had the Varta model last week but no longer stock it! Ordered it online for instore pickup. What a palava for a cheap torch. I can see why people mod ones they already like!
