M1

Got ALMOST 2 hours on target with M1 tonight. Seeing was about perfect, with nil wind and nil cloud until 0000.

This was trying out a Vixen AX103 focal reducer on a Vixen FL102S. Seemed to work OK. Vignette perhaps was a little more than I wanted, but I was going to crop this anyway.

Need MORE data. JUST starting to see some structure in this. JUST. Maybe pushed the colour channels a touch, but seems OK, with decent star colour retention (though not perfect). Perhaps too much sharpening. Will redux as I add more data anyway.

A good start, Lewis, with a surprising amount of detail and colour. It's a pretty small object so maybe not the best subject for your reducer setup.

If you look back through past M1s here Lewis, that is a top effort really. Great colour in M1, good star colour preservation. Not sure if you planned to have it framed like that?

It is a surprisingly small object. What sort of camera used?

I use a Canon 5D MkII. It's a cropped shot, and I wanted it to the right third so as to show how small M1 really is by comparing to the stars left third upper.

Thanks on the comments. I did a fair bit of reading to see how to extract as much data as possible out of images.

It's no Martin Pugh, but it's only 2 hrs through a 4 inch refractor and a DSLR running with a 31° CMOS from a severe light polluted driveway

The crab has a remarkable amount of detail in it for a wide field image.
Must try it myself.

Yes, quite a bit of detail considering the scale, and . It would be interesting to see it without the reducer as well.
