Attempted ISS and Comet Lemmon 22nd Jan

Cloudy tonight in Brisbane but it did not stop me trying to capture Comet Lemmon again, this time with the ISS passing by. Unfortunately the video capture settings of 1/4s at f/1.4 and ISO 6400 (along with cloud) weren't quite enough to record the comet. I've included a couple of stills with one marking the position of the comet tonight.

Thanks for looking,

Tom

Shame about the cloud! That would've been a great shot.

At 3:30am EST from my urban location, Comet Lemmon (C/2012 F6) was easily seen through my 7x50 binos. It is a nice little fuzz ball. The Moon had set and there was a good patch of clear sky overhead. It looks to have travelled approx 30 arc minutes SSW since you took your photo.

Comet Panstarrs (C/2011 L4) is still proving hard to track down with binos. There was some cloud in that part of the sky. When it cleared, the early morning twilight was starting to wash out the sky. Even though I could see the stars that were within the same FOV, i'm not convinced that I saw the comet. The faintest hint of a smudge might have been wishful thinking on my part.

Nice one Stu. I still have yet to see Lemmon through the binoculars, although it does show up in Live View on the camera.

It's incredible how bright the ISS gets for it to be seen through clouds is something I've never seen yet makes an interesting shot.
