20May Jupiter 9.25 SCT

Hi everyone,

I hijacked Asi's Celestron 9.25", only got one Avi before the clouds took over.

Seeing= 3-4/10
Captured at 5 fps
2x barlow and extention tube

I came to the conclusion that any Jupiter is better than no jupiter at all. So all you Jupiter-holics here is a small fix for you, I know it is not a good image, but we will keep trying.

Two images of same, just that one is down-sized a bit.

Hey Lester, nice to see you're diversifying in the scope stakes

so how do you rate the C9.25 against the Monster

Hi Robert,

I couldn't say how the 9.25 compares to the 14. Asi is going to mount his 9.25 on top of the 14 in my observatory so we will be able to both image at the same time from the same spot and then compare scopes and post results.

Hope to have it all up and running in a couple of days.

Hi Houghy,

The mount is a German equatorial "Goliath" purchased new in 1980 from Astro-Optical supplies. It has 2" solid shaft on both axis. I purchased a 14" Thomas Matthis RA drive which is very accurate in the early 1980's, Got advice from a well known Queensland astronomer Jim Barclay. The dec has a 2 foot motorized tangent arm. The mount is not computerised but tracks very well and is very stable.

I can certainly vouch for the tracking abilities of the goliath....What a great mount it is.

In progress right now of altering/cutting & shutting some 'rings' Lester was using to hold his 8" SCT to the 16" reflector that used to be on goliath....In between IIS, cooking tea, cleaning the damn house etc etc...
