Mongrel scammer got me.

LATEST EMAIL SCAM.

I'm actually expecting a delivery from DHL, so this clever mongrel had me open an attachment on an email. Luckily it was just a word document requiring me to fill in details and send it back. The bad thing was, in order to open it, the sender requested a read receipt, which I did. I better get ready for a flood of spam now... grrrr!!!

We have been waiting for you to contact us for your Confirmed Package that arriver our office for shipping to your Country of resident. We thought that the sender gave you our contact details here and that you would have contacted us by now. We would also like to let you know that a letter is attached to your package. However, we cannot quote its content to you via E-mail for privacy reasons. What you have to do now for immediate dispatch of your parcel, you have to pay a sum of $105 US Dollars to the DHL Delivery Department for the Security Keeping Fee of your parcel. DHL Company as stated in our privacy terms & condition page. Also be informed that the lottery officials wished to pay for the Security Keeping charges, but we do not accept such payments considering the facts that all items & packages registered with us has a time limitation and we cannot accept payment not knowing when you will be picking up the package or even respond to us. So we cannot take the risk to have accepted such payment in case of any possible demurrage.

Kindly note that the lottery officials did not leave us with any further information. We hope that you send your response to us as soon as possible because if you fail to respond until the expiry date of the foremost package, we may refer the package to the European Commission or the Welfare as the package does not have a return address.
You are required to contact the delivery department (DHL Express Delivery Post) with the details given below:

At least he hasn't gotten any money out of you. A bit of spam\scam mail you can trash with a rule in your mail client if you can't be bothered doing it yourself. If you just keep deleting it he will go away eventually. Just don't reply to any other contact. He is trying to make money and if you don't respond then he is wasting time.

You could also 'play' with him 419eater style. promise everything, deliver nothing. Better done from a throwaway email address though.
Used to be an entertaining exercise but got rather tedious after a while. I 'outed' one a few years back. He confessed then tried to get me to send money to buy a taxi so he could do legitimate work .. Yeah Right !!

+225 International code is the Ivory Coast....

I cant believe the crap they put into these so called legitimate documents.

Rocektmail.com is apparently an official DHL email address domain?

Mrs Lyrical Walker?

we may refer the package to the European Commission or the Welfare

huh? what?

I love the imagination and audacity of these guys. I think if they ever started trying to get a real job they might actually do quite well for themselves.

I just get angry that they feel it is OK to attempt to separate honest people from money they have worked hard to accumulate.

One of my honeypot email accounts which only gets used for subscribing to lists etc has been inundated with a lot of scam spam, emails from virgin/jetstar etc about booked flights, stuff from DHL and UPS, etc etc... They are really bringing it all out to see how many people they can get over the xmas period.

Makes me quite angry.

The only thing Baz did was open the attachment and send a read receipt Paul.

The content of the email was simply listed so we could all have a laugh.

Cheers

It's a good idea to turn off automatic read receipts.

I got a bogus email purportedly from the ATO yesterday with some malware attached. It was much better written than the usual and they had gone to some trouble to make it look real. Digging through the email headers I found that it originated from an IP address in Indonesia. The malware was only identified by 5 of the 19 scanners here: http://virusscan.jotti.org/en

If the bad guys get their act together it will be very scary.

Cheers,
Rick.

I didn't get to see the text until I had opened the document Paul.

After that, one glance a the blue bold writing a mile long with atrocious grammar was enough for me to see it was bogus. I didn't even need to read it.

Certainly a long winded letter Baz, they just don't stop, do they, there must be some very ordinary people in this world, who like nothing better than to steal and lie.
