Sutherland Astronomical Society Practical Astronomy Course

I have been asked by SASI's Education Officer to post a thread about Sutherland Astronomical Society's Practical Astronomy Course (SASPAC).

The course runs over 9 Wednesday nights commencing next Wednesday 24 August 2011, and run for approximately 2 hours. A run down of what is covered is below;
24/08 19:00 Registration and Introduction to Practical Skywatching
31/08 19:30 The Inner Solar System
07/09 19:30 The Outer Solar System
14/09 19:30 Telescope Optics
21/09 19:30 The Anatomy of Stars
There are no lectures on 28/09 or 05/10 due to school holidays
12/10 19:30 Constellation, Catalogues and Atlases
19/10 19:30 Deep Sky Observing
26/10 19:30 Cosmology
02/11 19:30 Where to From Here?

The cost of the course is $140 for all 9 nights, some discounts are offered to club members, and include all lecture notes, books etc. For more information please visit SASI's website at www.sasi.net.au.

The course is a must for all budding amatuer astronomers and the presenters are all very experienced amatuer astronomers in their own right. During the course, participants also get to utilise the club's facilities as well as invitations to various viewing nights at Waterfall in Southern Sydney.

Moderators if you feel this will gain better benefit by being in another section please feel free to move it at your discretion.

Hi Wayne & All,

Yep, highly recommended except the Deep Sky stuff which is taught by a bit of a fool.

Best,

I'd have to disagree Les, he's a great orator

I did the SASPAC well over a decade ago and ever since then it has become a truly impressive course, highly worthwhile for newbie astronomers.
