Well I just knew it was going to be a good night before I even came to focus...No damned jetstream! I had a mid level 'flutter' as well as a 10-15 KM low alt. breeze that actually made the seeing better. I verified this because every time the wind abated, the seeing would get worse.
I only recorded the one AVI with this seeing. The other 15 in steadily worsening seeing as Jupiter rose & the wind died down. Unusual to have AVI # 1 as your best! It's usually the last one..Anyway very happy with this result
It still amazes me that this sort of imaging is possible from 'home'.
These images blow away anything I saw in the textbooks when studying in the 80s, and they were from 100" scopes!
Very nice detailed image John, almost makes me want to get back into planetary imaging. I marvel too as Peter said about the results of today compared to 30 years ago from the largest scopes. All the best.

Edit: I too used to marvel at the pictures in the books like "The southern sky" Etc. Etc. with the Mt. Palomar 200" when I was 12 & I never thought I'd actually be whipping it's butt photographically with an 11" telescope yrs later! Have to love evolving technology.
I ended up buying myself a 618 last week, now just trying to figure out the capture settings, processing, etc.. Got some good results so far, even with an unguided dob, but ive got a feeling its going to be a long road ahead..lol..

Well Davin, I'd say you'd get to this quality a lot quicker than I did simply because they didn't have the 618 chip until just recently. If I was still using the old DBK I'd still be posting average results unless it was TOP seeing. The thing I've found with the 618 is that the seeing doesn't have to be wonderful to get a very nice result, so slowly, we are beating that seeing with every new piece of related equipment that gets put out there for us planet punters

Just for a bit of fun, I thought I'd add this 3D image. I'm sure most of you here know how to do this? If not: The procedure is to relax, look at the image your usual distance from the screen. Slowly go cross-eyed until the 2 images blend into one in the centre. If they are not aligned quite right, very slowly tilt your head left or right to 'focus' Takes a bit to actually do correctly if you've not done it before, therefore practice is the key! Good luck!

Lovely image for so early in the season, Asi. I have to take my hat off to you for persistence. Can't manage the 3D thing though. i don't think my eyes and brain are cut out for whatever it takes to do the combination.
Nice going John, the data looks pretty good. Been a bust up here for imaging and we are heading back tomorrow. Jupiter is high in the sky here but there is cloud every night.
