New Skywatcher Mounts AZ-EQ6GT and Allview

Has anyone else heard about these? There was an ad in the lastest (Nov) issue of Astronomy Now that I followed to this website http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/new_products
There is a SW Allview mount that appears to be designed for pno photography as well as use as a basic scope mount and a new SW
AZ-EQ6GT mount that operates as both EQ and Alt Az (bit like the Meade LX80)

Heard about them a few weeks ago. Based on Skywatcher's quality control being a lot better than Meade's, this may be an LX80-killer. Having said that, it may be more expensive than the Meade. I seem to remember seeing a price somewhere in Europe and thinking it would translate to around $2000 here. I may be wrong of course.

Allview's been around for a longtime... BTOW here in Perth had them in stock first quarter of the year.

As for the AZ-EQ6GT ...

Reading the fine print - payload of 5 kg only. So telescope wise - only a small light weight would be suitable.

Payload Capacity: 18kg for imaging and 25kg for visual

That's the same as the current NEQ6 Pro (or EQ6 Pro).

Edit: Just figured you might have been talking about the Allview ... in which case payload is 4.08 kg according to the spec.

The All View has been marketed as multi function mount for some time. I am not sure if the multi function mount though came with a steel tripod.

I was considering one for time lapse panning as well as a light goto mount for events like solar eclipse, lunar eclipse etc.

I have the Orion Multifunction mount, came with a Steel tripod, but is a little wobbly when you get it loaded up ie.. ED80 and Camera etc... It works fine with just the camera on it, which is near 2kg...

Look forward to seeing if this Retro EQ6 will work with EQmod...

Good news it looks like it works with eqmod also (in eq mode) below is an extract from Facebook

" The Binocular and Telescope Shop*It connects fine with EQ direct cable - notice to Handbox port on the mount takes the RJ45 type plug. I used a Shoestring cable as used for the EQ5/HEQ5 (http://www.bintel.com.au/Mounts---Tr...oductview.aspx). Connected with Stellarium and it responds to sync and slew commands. I am not sure how it handles Stellarium scope in AZ mode???"

How about the Nexstar SE mount which Celestron now sell without Scope. It carrys about 12lbs.
