Eta Carina

Took this shot friday night at Jerrara Dam (NSW near Jamberoo) of Eta Carina region.

8 mins unguided through an Orion ED80 and Canon 350D (unmodified).
Iso 1600 . Whole assembly piggybacked on a classic Lx200 10 inch.

Processed in photoshop (levels , star bloat)

The 350D is proving to be a great camera !

Wow Joe, very rich colouring.

What causes the blotchy effect, I am sure if you don't know someone will inform us. Otherwise it is very nice indeed.

I think its the star bloat filter and the reduction to 130kb from 8mb..file ..the jpg gets noisy and blotchy.

Still learning though !

I use to do a lot with an ST6 sbig B/W imager a few years ago.
These days I try to get out with our Astronomy group at Jerrara Dam and do as much imaging as I can.

The Canon 350D camera is proving to be a great unit.

I have heard lots of great things about the 350D (and seen lots of great things through this forum).

Is the Horsehead avatar one of your images?

I have the same set-up re scopes, an ED80 on top of an LX200. I just haven't started imaging yet..... visual stuff is keeping me very happy at the moment.

Great image there Joe,

Looks like JPEG compression artifacts. Was it originally taken in RAW or JPEG? Colours look brilliant.

Yes , original shot was in RAW..and your right jpeg at low levels may introduce heavy artifacts.

No the avatar is not an image I took...the Horsehead is a favourite of mine !

Anyone have imagesplus..thinking of buying it.
I have read great things about it.
I'm currently using maxim DL and photshop .
