Blinking LED

Does anyone know of a source or plans to make a variable illumination, blinking LED. Want to set this up for polar alignment scope illumination.
Thanks, Allan

Google for: 555 timer IC LED flash schematic. A potentiometer in series with the LED will adjust the brightness.

I made a 555 circuit recently for my Telrad. Variable brightness, duty cycle and frequency. Unfortunately it did not work as well as expected because there was too much interference between the duty cycle and frequency selection. I'm going to have another go with a spare PIC12C671 I have (talk about cracking a walnut with a sledge hammer).
