Another Nova in Sagittarius

On 16th July 2012 CBAT announced a possible nova candidate called PNV J18193700-1907400
It had been discovered by T. Kojima, Gunma-ken, Japan, using Canon Digital Camera. Photometry reported on 18th July gave a V mag of 12.71
I took a low resolution (R=700) spectra of this nova candidate on 19th July 2012 from Armidale NSW using a LISA spectrograph on a 200mm diameter telescope.

Excellent results for a 12 mag object.
Certainly has all the hallmarks of a Nova.

Great job Terry - you are certainly rolling out these spectra.

I had seen a report recently of a mag 8 nova in Sagittarius - is this a different one?

Dear Pete
This is a different nova. This one has now been designated as Nova Sagittarii 2012 No 5

The one at mag 8 is Nova Sag 2012 No 4.
I have also taken a spectra of it and it is attached. I was going to take a follow up one tonight but cloud has intervened again. Because it is much brighter I have a much better S/N. There are many emission lines of Fe etc.

I think with all the recent Nova and the excellent results achieved by amateurs, we need to re-group and get some spectroscopic excitement back into membership!
Please remember that even a humble grating (Star Analyser/ Rainbow Optics) will show the differences between types of Nova, and then there is always some of the brightest Wolf-Rayet visible in the Southern Hemisphere.
So many objects, so many spectra, it's a ongoing project.....
Onwards and Upwards.
