Meade LX-800s Recalled

Saw this post on CloudyNights - LINK

The Meade Website makes no mention of a recall, but all LX-800 items (apart from counterweights) are either on backorder or are not yet available (reducer).

Seems a bit strange to make an announcement like this on a forum and not your company website, but it looks like an established poster on CloudyNights (registered 12months ago) and is in the Vendor Announcements Section.

Any further news from anyone.

I so very nearly bought a LX800. But I read a lot of negative reviews about them.

With all the faults that people have been reporting about them, a recall doesn't seem out of the ordinary. But I have not heard anything about this.

Gday Dave

They mentioned it on their 4M website as well.
I suspect it was only done to dampen the spreading fires.
As far as i can tell to date, only a handful of people ever got LX800s
( i have only seen posts/references from 6 owners so far )
and it would appear all of those people were contacted directly,
hence no "need" to issue a recall notice.

Thought that might be the case Andrew. Did any actually make it to Oz?

The mount does look very similar to an AP - at least externally!

Sounds sensible - let the Yanks do the beta testing! Although on a mount of that price, the consumer shouldn't be doing the beta testing...

Not unless Don got an early one and has squirrelled it away

A lot of people have said that.
Its certainly not an AP firmware wise.
