Venus Transit from Mount Barker SA

Hi Everyone,

What a crazy day. Like many people on this forum my experience of the Venus Transit was spent cursing the clouds.
My day unfolded something like this:

Awoke all excited, raced outside and my heart sunk - overcast!
Fired up Solarium to check exact timing etc.
Setup the scope etc on the footpath across the street.
Attempted to fit solar filter - crap, I installed my Telrad too high - take off Telrad.
Install Sun Filter...wait for a break in the clouds....waiting waiting.
Hmm - let's refit the Telrad...solar filter gets bumped off....rolls along its edge and onto some rocks next to someone's driveway (INSERT CURSE HERE!!!) Luckily it fell glass side down so the coating was untouched.
Refit the solar filter and tape that mofo on (screws didnt seem to hold properly - better now than while looking through the scope!!)

I missed the start of the Transit but there were brief periods of clear sky to capture a few images. I was hoping to do my first prime focus photography (only had the scope for 2 weeks) but I could not achieve focus with my DSLR without the 2x barlow - and that was a tad close.
So the following image was taken via Afocal.
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this event, plenty of people stopped to have a look and ask questions plus I got to enjoy it with my wife and 2 little ones (3 and 12 weeks).

Clear Skies!

Ryan

Sounds like you had a day like mine, you should be happy with that image! That's a really good afocal shot.

Here's a bit of an artistic impression I did from one of the partly cloudy images I took. Looks funky as my desktop background.
