Luna: Atlas and Hercules

Hi all.

On Saturday morning inbetween Jupiter runs, I took a quick avi whatever area of the moon the dob fell on

Turns out it was the craters Atlas (bottom left) and Hercules (top left). Atlas shows some nice rilles in the floor.

The avi was only a couple of hundred frames, and I only stacked 7 frames so the image was quite noisy. I did "MAP" (multi-alignment point) processing on this - I aligned on 5 different areas from the same avi, and processed them identically, and recombined them in photoshop after.

After stacking, I took the green channel and did some mild LR deconvolution before taking back to photoshop. Noise was removed using NeatImage.

The seeing was fairly average but I think the image came out ok thanks to the lengthier than normal processing run.

Comments welcome.

Hey Mike, nice image, very crisp despite the seeing. Some interesting little features just to right and lower than the main creater, almost like tiny pairs of scratches?

cheers,
