IC2944 from 10Chain

The clouds were reasonably kind last weekend in Brissy, allowing me to have a decent go at the Running Chicken neb in Centaurus for the first time. My FOV means the portrait is reasonably close in - more "chicken giblets" than whole chicken really...

This is all RGB unbinned, with artificial luminance to squeeze out a bit more life (expected time between clouds could be limited and so elected not to collect Lum). After clouds, fog and throwing away some poorly tracked frames, I ended up with RGB 20:15:15 min (5mins subs, 50mins total). The plan was/is to try and get some Ha from the city later when time allows, but would have been nice to get some more quality colour frames. Still, can't be choosy with the wet season the way it is.

Taken with the QHY9 through 8" Newt/MPCC.

Thanks for the encouragement guys and gal. It was so nice to get out under some stars for a change, even if the weather wasn't ideal. I'm going to have to work on the bloatinf of blue frames somehow. I wonder if I collected shorter blue subs but more of them relative to red and green
Have never had great success deconvolving down a little as Greg Bradley and others have talked about.

Peter - I think that's the first time I've actually been able to make out a chicken in there by golly! See what you mean about the "neck feathers" in the region you NB'd too now...

Must be multiple fractal chickens in there! I'm sure I've seen someone sketch it including the two outlying Ha regions somehow too.

That's a great result Rob, given the short RGB, love the vibrant colours, really quite nice...

As for where the chicken is... I give up on you guys you're all mad

Thanks Mike. I was glad to salvage this considering all the moisture about. Will probably add to it some stage - that's a nice thing about CCD imaging and not changing your rig very often.

Then again, I might win lotto and have a PME and AG26 this time next year

Hi Nick, it always a gamble in wet season isn't it, but fingers crossed for upcoming weekends. Glad you enjoyed the spicey chicken.

I think PI is definitely worth getting. There are a number of things worth the purchase price alone - image integration of subs, background correction, wonderful control over stretches and saturation, noise and wavelet controls. It does take time to figure out, and is not the fastest way to get a final image - in fact some things like basic image cal and stacking can be quite frustrating. Trouble is I always get best results from my data when I take the time...
