Butterfly after emerging from a chrysalis

This handsome male I spotted in my backyard yesterday morning, at first I thought he may have been stuck in a spiderweb but instead he had just emerged from a chrysalis and the colours were so bright I've never seen one like it before and I've seen many Orchard Swallowtails before. He didn't mind the camera flash either and I enjoyed his company for about half an hour while he contemplated on whether it was safe to fly away

Thanks, it was an amazing experience. My father promised when he passed that he would come back as a butterfly and this one didn't seem to want to leave me which was very unusual and strange.

Wow you are so lucky to be there right when he emerged. I am told they need to gather the strength in their wings for a little while after coming out. Great colours on this one. At my daughters kindy they had 5 chrysalis and we were lucky enough to actually see the last Monarch butterfly emerge from its chrysalis. All the teachers and kids were buzzing with excitement. It was a great wonder of nature to witness. Great pics thanks for sharing

The Monarch or Wanderer butterfly is another amazing Australian native that is great to see too. I never knew the colours faded so much until I saw it all brand new.
