Carina Blue

Got the camera going last night, first time in quite a while.

Here's a narrowband ETA in tonemapped colour.

6 each S2:Ha:O3, 15minute subs.

Takahashi FS-102 @ F6.

added repo to fix sharpened stars and larger image. Click image to enlarge.

Nice photo & you did well to use
the complicated technique of tone mapping.

Just had a look at this method.

Can't say I'd subscribe to tone mapping as described above ....as it changes the data rather than enhances it.

I also don't agree that the SII data shows little information. It is often the most exciting...but needs exposure time & dilligence to capture, calibrate and enhance.

Love the colour but the stars are wrecked. Is that oversharpening or some consequence of the tone mapping?

Greg.

Cheers everyone. I was planning to have a look at the cone last night but after an hour odd it was obvious the moon was just too close to it. All the subs showed a hot spot in the middle of them and it just looked like a white blob

I haven't been following that tonemapping method as written. I remove the stars and give the 3 channels a severe stretch, no blur, but you have to be careful not to burn em out. Here's the tonemap from this image. I then used apply image in PS to add the O3 and S2 to the Ha, gave it a sharpen, and use that as a Lum for the tonemap. I normally use a mask to sharpen after combining everything but got sick of sitting at at keyboard on this one. The hubble colours come up on their own and no magenta stars to deal with

Some images seem to show more detail this way, others, including this one, don't look much different from the traditional method. I tonemapped this one as I lost control of the colours in the other one

Over smart sharpened I'd guess, I was too lazy to mask it this arvo. Did a repo
