Baby Jumping Spider eating fly.

Spotted this tiny little spec yesterday on a leaf. A couple hours later I went back to see if it was still there and saw even more tiny baby ones sitting on other leaves very jealous of their sibling with the big juicy fly.

Great photos, Ken - you can see every tiny hair on its body. Fascinating little critturs, these jumpers - I love watching them on the prowl.

Thanks guys, Was such a tiny little spider only just saw it.

Taken with a Sigma 150mm on a Canon 600D. Using a 270EX II flash with a home made snoot/diffuser until the 580 arrives.

Manual settings, 1/200 sec, ISO 200 manual focus

Hi,

These little spiders are amazing, and I am rather glad they don't grow to the size of a huntsman, say.

I was studying one on a plant once and realised it was studying me, as well. I moved a foot to one side and it moved around in line. I moved back, it did too.

Apparently these big front eyes give the spider a clear image, probably in colour. They are fierce little hunters, and I felt myself being sized up as dinner .

Cheers
