Orion Nebula 27 years apart
I just made a comparison bewteen what a 30min exposure got me back in 1984 compared to what 30min (10min each R G B) gets me today
Orion Nebula 1984 V 2011
That B&W photo was very exciting in 1984 and was even part of an award winning display....funny how things improve, man if someone had shown me my 2011 version back in 1984 I would have fallen of my chair
Also put up the Luminance only version of the latest data
Mike

Great comparison Mike. Wonder what the next 27 years will bring us?
Love that Lum version - should be titled 'Holy Smoke'.
Beautiful stuff.
Cheers

It's cool to reminisce to appreciate how good it is now
The B&W M42 is a scan of an old slifghtly travelled print so it did suffer somewhat.

Wow, great comparo Mike!
Love Bert's gif too, its like the details are being teased out in front of you.
Having a closer look at the film shot Mike, it's incredible just how much detail you did get back then, especially on the cloud details on the "bell" shape of the nebula.....interesting to see the "grain" of the film too!
Very entertaining experiment and presentation, great idea!
Cheers

I must drag out some of my early images too. Just for comparison. The comparison is like chalk and cheese. So much difference from all those years ago.
Re the Luminence, don't forget to respect the light there mate.

Awesome comparison!!! What struck me most was the number of years you have been doing this for Mike!!!!

That's very impressive.
I've wondered how much things have changed - I have an old Patrick Moore 'Atlas of the Universe' and some of my pics are better than the ones in there. And I can hardly call myself an expert - I am barely out of photographic diapers!
