As a child growing up in China, January 15 (on the Chinese or Lunar calendar) is always celebrated as the first lunar full moon symbolises families coming together.
It wasn't until much later when I got into astronomy that I begin the make the connection between the moon phase, astronomy (the Chinese were one of the earliest astronomers due to their demand for court "astrologers" for the emperors, next to the Persians and other early civilisations), agriculture and many other aspects of our lives we take for granted.
So happy first lunar full moon everyone (in my IIS astro-family!)
Bo
PS: apparently there is guy called Valentine who we are celebrating today with chocolates and flowers as well
