Heres some more macro shots I took on our walk today.

I missed out on a scorpion & a centipede....too quick for me to get a decent shot.

"i find a 7x14 LR deconvolution followed by a lingust rotational transition and a small touch of gamma separation, clockwise of course really makes the original image of a spider look like a stick insect"

I like these, it is nice for a change to take a photo and not have to do anything to it!

Jess and Amy are fascinated by a large wolf spider that has taken up residence in the garden. It is the largest hole i have seen made by a spider (1" diameter). Every visitor we get, Amy (the 2yr old) gets straight into explaining about the spider and then grabs the library books on spiders they have borrowed and wants them to read it to her.

Nice shots John , you were game to get that close to a bull ant , I suspect if you had some in front of you there would of been some behind you interesting colours on the first spider

Lol Beren....Don't worry, I was MOST attentive as to what was behind me while shooting I assure you!

These ants are extremely aggressive & fear is NOT part of their makeup....but it's part of mine lol!

Amy (Dave P's daughter) Hunted high & low for a spider & this is the best I could do It's only about 5mm in diametre & lives in my junk room in a lil' hole in a card board box. He/she is well camouflaged against the carpet, so I'll call him/her a carpet spider!

Oh, I forgot to add these pics from our trip to the beach yesterday.

Not sure on the official name of this insect, but it was a cross between a blowfly & a bee (about the same size) & hovered like a humming bird, guarding it's home in the sand.

Awesome shot John, love the colours too.
Would've been a good one too for the Photo challenge this month.

G'day Asimov,

To be honest I don't know my insects at all well. I made that name up, if you translate the Latin then you get what I wrote in English..but it does look like a hoverfly of some description. The image of the bee (Apis megastingus var. hurtii) is a corker!

Macro shots of insects are quite difficult, primarily because the little sods insist on moving about the place. I tried taking images of a small praying mantis once but it kept doing that "swaying in the pretend breeze" motion so it always turned out blurred.

Peter (Petrum volantis var. stultus).

Just finished making a macro lens for the Kodak to get up even closer to creatures, & here's the result.

This little spider has a leg-span of 3mm that I just spotted climbing the wall. The surface it's on is wallpaper.
