Focusers

A couple of focusers too many:

1. JMI NGF-S with DC motor and hand control (will include a FCUSB from Shoestring so it can run with FocusMax and FocusPal (and no dount others). Does not include Flange for connecting to scope: this varies with OTA so has to be ordered from JMI. This model only has 1/2 inch of travel and can only be operated electrically (no knobs to twiddle) so it's specifically designed for imaging. It does not have a stepper motor. It is DC motor, not stepper. These are not made in a 2" version any more. The current NGF models all seem to be 3" so it's a good idea to grab one while you can. The current 3" SCT version with motor runs about US$750 (add$ for a flange) So for a 2" with motor and flange and also the FCUSB, I'm open to offers around the A$380 mark. (plus post)

[SOLD] 2. A Moonlite CS 2" dual-rate version with 3 thumbscrew compression ring and flange for Celestron 3 1/4" thread back ends. Full inch of travel (with an SCT who needs more anyway) and drawtube includes Reducer option (i.e. you screw your .63 reducer into the drawtube instead of the OTA - thereby maintaining a fixed/constant reduction factor whatever position the focuser is in). It's fire-engine red and looks so good you just want to stroke it. It is a smoothe as you-know-what and a pleasure to use. A motor can be added. Current price, with the flange and postage from MoonLite is about US$460-470. I'm open to offers around the A$375 mark (plus post).

PMs only please.

Peter

It will focus fine - you use the SCT built-in focuser for coarse focus and then the JMI for fine focus.

And because it is motorized, you can focus without touching the OTA and avoid the wobbles and shakes.

Yes. But you'd have to buy a flange with the GSO thread and size. I'm not sure what that is - it's been quite a while since I owned an RC8.

Not sure if this helps... I got a JMI Event horizon focuser and it came with a 2" flange. I replaced this to use it on my SCT. The flange, if it is compatible, is a freebie + postage

I think that it just might work. It's is worth a try - even if I have to mod it a little.
Thanks Rom, that's generous of you.
I'll PM you with details.
