hurst 300:1 geared stepper for EQ Platform

Heya guys were can i source something like the hurst 300:1 geared stepper? I've seen that hurst sell them but to the U.S. only and i really need one for a eq platform i wish to build. I Have googled like crazy looking for something of its specs and price but have had very little luck. It's looking like it would be cheaper to get a eq kit just for the drive unit and controller for $259 which is really sad

If anyone could help me out with an online vendor, or even just an Australian vendor selling at a good price it would be great

Hi Jay,

Just had a look on eBay. Lots of stepper motors but not with gearboxes. I like vexta motors and there are plenty of them, some are pretty cheap. Some are 0.9 degree steps which helps. You could attach one of those gearboxes jaycar sells. Another alternative is here:

Or you can use a dc motor with a gearbox. They are very cheap.

BTW there is an excellent yahoo group devoted to equatorial platforms.

Cheers Rod i do like that cam idea on that eq platform, though a direct drive would give me much better results. I have looked at DC box's as well though see speed is an issue for direct drive units as it more RPH not RPM. I have being on the yahoo group as well, lol downloaded every file they have and have gone mad on the web grabbing/reading anything i can.

I might give that guys drive a go as its a first build and later track down a direct drive unit. Another drive which i liked was the tape drive but that one you found could work out sweet like a barn door tracker cheers
