GC ngc 5286 & PN ngc 5307

Hi all
With great seeing and clear skies I imaged these 2 objects on the one image.
Image is 6x10 mins ISO200. UV/IR filter, mpcc coma corrector, modded 350D, 10 inch f5.6 newtonian, off axis hand guided as usual. Very good seeing.
Here are full res. crops of the globular cluster NGC 5286 and the small blue planetary NGC 5307, just managed to fit them both in.

Here is the full frame.
Scott

Hi Scott,

Looks really good.

An unusual photo.

I really like the first closeup.

Thanks.

Ross.

Two excellent shots Scott! I love the glob next to the bright star, I remember looking at this through the 12" LX200GPS a few years ago.

Was this taken last night?...How did you get good seeing ...I just don't see it from New Lambton

Really very well done Scott. Glad to see someone is getting the seeing.

Thanks all
It was taken on the 28th. I was indeed surprise the seeing was that good, normally a rarity to get really decent seeing. The guide star just sat there nice and steady, wish all guiding was like that

That's how I gauge the seeing too, since moving to Newcastle area from Canberra, the seeing here pales, at mums place in New Lambton I have not seen a night of good seeing, average'sh perhaps but not good, most nights are pretty soft and bubbly. I was concerned it was tube currents or boundary layers in the new scope but the ED80 guide scope at 1200mm FL concurs, I call the effect pom pom seeing ie fuzzy balls dancing all over the place changing size.

It was better out at Thornton when we moved here in 07 but where I image from outside Kurri even it is crap to average most nights but I have had a couple of nights of good seeing out there at least...

Gee, I would have thought that at Kurri it would be good. I wonder if its turbulence coming off the nearby mountains and hills.

In the days of film I sometimes went to the Wallaroo State Forest, north of Raymond terrace. Its BLACK there, really dark (its where i first clearly saw the tendrils of the Vela SLR visually through a 16 inch scope we carted there) However, the actual seeing was awful, and there would be sudden warm patches of air, then cold again, so little wonder the seeing there was so bad. Such a pity as it was so dark. Jagging both dark skies and good seeing is a tough ask thats for sure.
