The Dish and the Moon Carnarvon WA

HI Guys, did not quite know where to put this photo as it is a bit of terrestrial and Solar, so I hope it will slot in here.

I am camped next to this thing in Carnarvon WA and loving it, makes for some different photo opportunities, anyway took this, this evening, would have liked the Moon a bit closer, but that was the closest i could get, as it is locked behind high fences, hope you like it.

Leon

Leon that is an excellent shot!!!!
And I'm not urinating in your pocket
BTW I would love to know if the three silhouettes on top of the dish are Mama bird and two of its offsprings?????

Maybe a bit of HDR.....

What settings did you have on the camera?

Bart, thanks for that mate, those three bird like things you see are the warning lights that come on at about 6pm each night.

I don't know how to do HDR Bart, I don't have a program for that.

Cheers, mate

Hi Leon

That is a fabulous shot – the lighting is very atmospheric. Is that the high power, long range, mega multi-channel satellite TV dish on your caravan?

Cheers

Dennis

Leon,

You are definitely shooting at the right time of day for these shots. Evening and early morning are like magic with that reddish golden lights, so, kudos to you there!

The shot could have been better if it was composed appropriately.

Cutting off part of the dish is akin cutting people's hands and feet off in a portrait; if the situation calls for it, such as extenuating composition, it might work, but, for the most part, it's a no-no.

A few steps back, and then, pointing the camera to the left to account for the extra space that would have been created to frame right would have seen it through.

Don't worry about HDR. The whole point about shooting landscapes in the golden hour, is to avoid hacks like HDR.

Keep it up!

H

Thanks Guys, yea I know H, but I was jammed up against the fence as it was and couldn't get back any further.

Might try the 50mm this evening, thank you for your help and suggestions.

Looks good Leon, love the light. Looks like you've done well given the fences.

Cheers,
Stephen

Super pic Leon.

Strange but true, the South African Karoo Array Telescope (KAT) is situated near Carnarvon in the Northern Cape. It's a small world!
