Question - Help Needed - Wall mounting TV

All,
We are currently doing some reno's which requires the wall behind the TV to be stripped & re-sheeted after some mods. So I figured I may as well mount the flat screen opn the wall.

So while the sheet is off I want to install all of the required cables in the wall & wall plates on the wall so that the components are in a cabinet on the floor &the TV is up the wall.

So what do I need???
Seeing that it's a permenant install I want to make it suitable for a newer TV. My current flat screen has 2 x component + 1 x std audio & vid, + 1 x vga.
Am also thinking of upgrading so as well as the above the new one will have HDMI or DVI + data + ????? (maybe USB)

Do I need HDMI and DVI and USB ??? or just one of these??? Which is better to have??
If I have a data (cat 6 or??) do I need the above at all????

With the above, do I still need the R, G, B component conections???

Well Bryan .. its really about what you'll be driving the screen with ... is it HDMI, or component ... THATS the key to this.

Me thinks it's time for a new Blu-Ray as well.

So the new TV will have the built-in digital tuner (currently have a box) & the main connected item will be the Blu-Ray player. But I do want the ability to connect the PC (hence the data / USB)
Then there's the surround sound...... Currently have a really old one that connects to the TV directly. I'm guessing a new Blu_ray will have that built in???
If not, what does it connect to?? THe TV?? or the component??

2x 50mm 90deg PVC pipe bends, 1.5metre of 50mm PVC pipe. Create a channel from behind the TV to behind the cabinet through the wall.

This way you can run whatever you need in the future.

I'm with Trevor. Gives you flexibility down the track.

Definitely need HDM1 - at least 3 I'd say, USB, Cat 5e or 6. RGB is ok for any potential legacy devices.

My mother has just bought a new Sony Bravia. It has 4 HDMI, 1 component, 1 composite and a vga computer type connection. Also has a network connection and optical sound output. HDMI seems the way to go, can connect the laptop to it via this as well. Would only need composite and component for older devices. Connect the surround sound via fibre. Don't forget the antenna lead and the power!

As an aside, can anyone tell me what you can do with the network connection?

2 x HDMI out/in, 1 x DVI for computer, 1 x USB, 1 x cat 5e patch lead,(for network to router), full set 5.1 audio cables, (just in case your receiver doesn't have HDMI), 1x RGB (just in case your receiver doesn't have HDMI)

If you have the wall sheeting off a duct is the answer as already suggested. But that is only a minor problem.

What size TV do you want. Little 40Cms, can be supported on the simple pullout wall mounting bracket but if you have a 60" or larger in mind remember they ain't light. You will need a substantial bracket and a way to get the TV up to it. (maybe a roof anchor for the chain block!)

I thought about a wall bracket for a 55" but settled for a nice stand (cost as much as the TV) that holds all the periferals. Even so it takes two of us to lift it on and off the stand. This set has HDMI x3, VGA, componets x2, Video x1, Svideo x1, RF, Audio cables to each and USB, and of course power. I have cables running to all except two of the HDMI's. Along the back of the stand I have screwed two four way extension power blocks (should have used 6 way). They are all filled with leads to the accessories and two splitter amps that distribute the RF. Keeps all the leads nice and tidy.
