PHD - graph/guiding went berserk

The other night PHD went odd for a period and just wondering what might be causing it.

I had polar aligned pretty well, and watching the graph during guiding the RA and DEC was staying within one pixel adjustments.

Then all of a sudden the graph started see-sawing off the chart, up and down off the scale. It was like it went right off, then over compensated and went right down the other way. I tried adjusting the aggressiveness and other settings, but nothing brought it back other than stopping guiding and restarting.

There is an easy answer Troy. You are cursed!
Probably a USB glitch or a brain fart in the computer.
Or maybe it's that new camera of yours.

Had the same problem Troy over the last couple of months. Nothing has changed in that period of time but something has gone astray with PHD. It is intermittent and I cannot seem to find the cause.

Try uninstalling and make sure you clear any directories etc and the registry keys for PHD then reinstall

Cables, cables, cables. Check and double check your cables, check that the guide cable is no where near a power cable and last of all buy some spray contact cleaner and spray the sockets and move the plugs in and out a few times while the cleaning spray is wet.
About 90% of all guiding problems are something to do with the cables ,plugs or sockets.

Good luck.

Thanks guys. Sorry haven't replied sooner but I haven't set up since this post so haven't had the problem again.

I do keep the power and data cables separate. Will keep a closer eye on it next time.

As Doug said, Mine was guiding along nicely on the G11 and then RA would just drop off the so called cliff, A little of Doug's expert advice and I moved the guide cable around away from the G11 power inlet, and bingo, away we went.

Finally managed some subs with the G11, hopefully get some more over the next couple of nights, depnding on weather and work and I'll hopefully have something to post!

I was tracking with my G11-g2 the other night using PH+D and similarly I had some really severe spikes in the graph and wondered what may have caused it

????

He had a cold last week, and isn't it funny how when you're holding babies, and their face is right in yours, and they cough and sneeze right in your face... consequently I've had a cold this last week too

I'm not using Maxim because I could not be stuffed having to learn how to use it for guiding. PHD is very easy to use but of late has a little bug. Maybe I will learn how to use Maxim.

Well, I dont blame you for that. Switching apps is often more grief than learning properly the one you have
