Powermate or new Nagler?

Popped into Bintel today and picked up a 2.5x power mate to compliment my 9 and 16mm Naglers. I had been thinking of getting a 5mm Nagler for the Lightbridge but in a spur of the moment decision went for the cheaper powermate. I thought that I could also use it for planetary imaging and keep the cost down. Hope I made the right decision

I am not an imager so I can speak to that use but will say in general it is hard to go wrong when you buy a Televue anything.

Got to try out the 2.5x Powermate last night. With the 9mm Nagler in the 12" Lightbridge I was pushing about 400x. Nice round star disks inside and outside of focus and Jupiter revealed loads of detail. Pretty impressed with this set up and the Lightbridge optics. The Powermate really helps with collimation too. I think it was a wise purchase now.

Have to agree with Scott about Televue. I've read many posts where people are asking if the extra cost is worth it. Even with my aged eyes I would definitely say yes. As an example, a few nights ago I compared viewing Jupiter with a University Optics orthoscopic, two long eye relief planetaries and a TV Ethos of similar focal length. The TV gave the brightest and clearest views despite being multi-element and 100 degree AFOV. A couple of high quality eyepieces and a powermate are all I need most of the time.

i would agree televue eyepieces are so much better in terms of contrast and clarity compared to plossls. A good example is like comparing a dvd movie vs a bluray movie. Alot more crisper picture.

I have 2.5x Powermate. Superb optics for a use with different eyepieces. I really enjoy it!
