meade scope

well its been a few months since i bought my new scope and after weeks of terrible weather had some viewing nights over christmas and really struggled with the pointing accuracy of my scope.it just kept on putting everything 30 minutes out or on the side of my eyepiece.i kept on training drives and playing with the edit numbers to bring the accuracy back into the eyepiece....
since its a bintel scope sydney gave don a ring and after doing some test we found that the dec.. encoder was around 40 minutes out.. its a big tast to take a 14"sct of its pier and post it back so don did a disk on how to change the motor and encoder it was quiet easy and only took around an hour with a couple of phone callers to don with silly questions,so ive already reset the handset and trained drives and wow the edit numbers are way better and don was happy so tonight im out for a little session to see if things are back on track... so thanks again bintel your service is fantastic....

imagine the trouble i'd be in if i bought overseas the postage back and forth would break you!!!!!!! scopes maybe a little cheaper overseas but customer service here is way worth the little extra.......

I agree Peter. The team at Bintel has always provided me with excellent service, backup and advice. You can't go wrong shopping with Mike, Mick, Don, Michael and Lily. I've shopped there for more years than I care to admit. Great team!

After months of fighting with my polar mounted 14" LX200 GPS, I finally have it under control. To do this I had to:
  1. Upload Dick Seymours latest Autostar patch: http://rseymour.home.wolfenet.com/patches/
  2. Use PEMPro to improve the PEC
  3. Use PEMPro to polar align the scope to within a min of perfect in both axes
  4. Run through a full cycle of smart mount correction
Step 4 is vital to ensure that the flexure of the forks is accounted for when pointing away from the meridian (Meade don't pretend that the forks are remotely strong enough thankfully, and have included this function to help).

I am beginning to get close to +/- 10 mins in much of the sky which is nearly as good as my 20" Dob can get. A few more runs of smart mount correction will further help I recon.
