Question Kydex

Anyone know where you can get the black plasticky material that is used in the Upper Tube Assembly of a Truss Dob
I know it as Kydex but it could have another name or spelling
Preferably in South East Queensland ,Sunshine Coast even better
Cheers

Hi Ron,
not that this is in Australia, but you might be able to use Flockboard by Protostar - it's like pre-flocked kydex. Their shipping is fairly reasonable from the US. I just received a shipment of flockboard and flocking paper from them a couple of weeks ago. Shipping was about a week.

Hi Ron,
flockboard comes from a 24" wide roll, and is sold at $0.65US per inch, plus shipping. Have a look at Flockboard on Protostar's website here

Mine came rolled and shipped in a square tube.

Hi Ron,

I work in a TAFE and the bookshop there sells plastic folders for the art students to store their work in. It looks very like kydex to me and I have used it in several projects. An art supply store probably stocks it too. You just remove the stitching and cut it to size.

However, for an upper cage I think a better option is thin plywood. I got 1.5mm ply from a marine timbers shop. I believe doorskins have been used too. The ply is much stronger and doesn't distort in the heat.

Rod.

Hi Rod, I already have Kydex but got a hole melted in it when he scope was left facing to close to the direction of the sun
The balance of the scope is with Kydex as the material.
