Confrontation with hoon driver.

Not sure what response I will get to this. Yesterday I was at a local sanctuary doing some photography. As I was finishing up and walking back to the car this hoon came careening out of a side road momentarily losing control of his car.

Just as I was getting to my car, a little further up the road, the hoon pulled up alongside got out (standing on the other side of my car) and asked whether I had, or intended to, photograph his car. I said no, at which point he threatened to bash me and other unsavoury things

I can't run because of an operation, and getting in the passenger side and squeezing into the driver seat is a major problem for me. So I put my camera in the car and motioned around toward this guy (not sure what possessed me to do that), at which point he retreated to his car still mouthing off and threatening to do me over.

It was just bad timing, and it only goes to show that even the most innocent pastimes can draw the attention of the wrong people.

The retractable dog lead that I keep in my car might have made the difference - I suspect that the sight of it in my hand caused this guy to have second thoughts about continuing with his tirade.

I hope he goes home and had a good hard think to himself. If that is not a positive experience then perhaps a self inflicted uppercut may help...

Complete idiot - had there been two or three of them however, it might have been a completely different matter.

Anyway I'm still frustrated by it, because there is a lot of hooning in the area - even running over birds - they are very trusting of humans and used to cars, but not guided missiles.

It's very disturbing when you come across these kinds of people.
It reminds you that the world is not always a benign place.
It's hard to understand what is going on in their heads.
Glad you got out of it unscathed.

Geelong is unfortunately renowned for the demographic. This is my second altercation, the last on the road about 12 months ago.

That made me take some self defense lessons Krav Marga. But honestly, I'm not sure that I have sufficient training to be effective.

The best advice I received was to run, and always keep an obstacle/barrier between yourself and the assailant.

The most interesting part was identifying items to be employed as potential weapons - the dog lead seemed an obvious choice. It may have done the trick.

what makes you think there IS anything going on in there? I bet if you put your ear to their skull, you could hear the crashing of waves.

I can't even fathom the arrogance that caused the fool to think that someone would want to photograph his car, let alone the rest of the testosterone induced BS. yeesh.

I'll cop to being 23. That still puts me in the same age bracket as most of these fools (though they can be of any age, but tend to thin out as they wrap their 'fully sik' rides around stobie poles and trees). Unfortunately, that means that even though I've never gotten a speeding ticket, or driven in a dangerous way, I'm assumed to be just as bad as these idiots (especially when it comes to insurance!).

Unfortunately, my solution is a bit too much like a 'final solution' if you catch my drift. People can be so uptight when it comes to trimming the gene pool of undesirables.

These poor souls are caught up in a self perpetuating social dilemma that prevents them ever rising above their circumstances and themselves - well rarely.

Their counterparts contribute to their imprisonment by ensuring that they never rise above their perceived station in life - their parents are probably guilty of the same. Am I being too kind?

I hope he gets some sense before the light pole gets him, or someone decides that trimming the gene pool is an appropriate response to his foolish behaviour.

Maybe I can get some sleep now - the poor fellow!

It's all gone downhill with young people, since they did away disciplining the little 'darlings' at home and at school. Bring back the cane at school and the belt at home. It kept my generation in line. I was 13 in 1980, and that wasn't that long ago.

To quote Yosemite Sam ...

"Well I speak LOUUUUDLY, and I carry a Bigger stick. And I use it too!"

I have a 33oz Black Mizuno baseball bat (and a baseball, in case an officer should ask). Great for backing up all flavours of clown.

My younger brother has a 45cm section of high tension wire, from when he used to work on the mines. Seriously, if this thing hit you, it would break bones. I want one of those; they store under the seat better.

I often have to cope with hoons when I take my toy car for its weekend spin.

They roar away from the traffic lights, expecting some sort of drag race but only demonstrate the fact they are a little dim....and on more than one occasion haven't noticed the marked/unmarked patrol car behind them

So try not to dwell on it....as often what goes around, comes around
