When things go horrible wrong

THis is a collection of 9 frames just over an hours data collected on the 8/12 using the GSO 8" RC with WOF2 reducer and QHY8 OSC

Shame these horrible reflections don't appear as noticeable on the subs otherwise I'd have given up sooner and moved on elsehwere

We all make mistakes and have equipment issues and I thought I'd resolved the issue I had with the GSO re reflections maybe time to flock the primary baffle tube

Reflections are a pain. Often hard to track down. In this case Paul has a thread showing how they are fixed. He flocked the main baffle tube.

Yep this a baffle tube reflection Trevor. You can follow my tutorial on it as Greg suggested. Once this is done the images tend to have a lot more contrast too.

I'll add a small note of caution about flocking a GSO RC8. It may be that this issue has been resolved in later production runs of this scope. The one with which I had this experience was the very earliest model sold here. I followed Paul's guide but encountered a problem when removing the baffle tube. In the process, I did not see that the small rubber collar at the base was held in place and under a sort of tension by 2 little grub screws that were darn near invisible. Not seeing them, I did not loosen them off before trying to unscrew/turn the baffle tube with the result that the primary mirror moved axially. That meant that any indexing between the primary and secondary was lost and since I could not find any indexing marks either, found myself in a world of hurt.
SO proceed with caution.

Hi Trevor,
if any area will test for reflections, this is definitely it... Alnitak will cast its influence even when well out of the fov.

If you're looking for some top notch flocking, buy some of the self adhesive light trap material from Protostar..
i've had my newt tube flocked with this gear from its conception... it improves contrast no end and is far better than anything I've seen... worth the wait. No fluffy bits to interfere with light paths or dislodge onto optics or mirrors.

Hope you sort it out soon... looks like it's a nice scope.
