pimped my guide

Don't ask me why I bothered doing this to a basic guidescope (the blue Skywatcher Short Tube 80) worth a couple of hundred dollars, if that. I was having trouble with flexure, so decided to upgrade the focuser to a GSO 10:1 one.

I was browsing around another forum and came across this fake carbon fibre contact-like stuff. Thought it might look pretty cool jazzing up the old cheap-looking SW ST80. It's 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber Vinyl Film Wrap. I bought 2 x A4 sheets for $14 each off eBay.

Here's the result. I reckon it looks pretty sexy. Sorry I didn't take before shots, but it's just one of these underneath all that.

Schmick!!! Now you need to pimp the focuser - a bit of gold paint and call it a Featherlight or maybe a Moontouch.

Hahahah! Good timing Troy, I had actually emailed the ebay seller the other day - inquiring about 40cm x 120cm (normally he sells 30 x 120), and he said add another $7.00 USD.

I wanna cover my filthy ED80 gold tube! Looks like you beat me to it.

The americans refer to this stuff as "Faux Carbon Fiber", but if you google it on ebay search for "Carbon Fiber Sticker".

Sweet!

Hmm, I would think the blue LEDs wouldn't go down that well at star parties. Maybe red?

MM nice looking good. The sort of thing to put on the spoiler of your car to rice it up a little. You could buy an alumium GSO RC and just wrap it up in this to fool people.

Yeah they ruined that car. Not that mini's are that great to begin with. Actually the interior was - interesting, but the motorcycle one is interesting.

RE: Bling carbon upgrade - yo!

Troy,

That's gotta be the coolest looking blue tube in the hood brother.

You may have just started a craze, makes those Orion CF EDTs look a bit overpriced mate!

Cheers,

David
