What's peoples opinion of Takahashi telescopes?

Hello:

My friend at our local church said his brother has a Takahashi 6" refractor telescope mounted on an equatorial Takahashi mount. And altogether it costs over 10 grand. He has his pictures out on ALPO his last name might be Roeder (pronouned like Rayder).

Does anyone here know some of the advantages of this kind of telescope verses a typical Schmidt Cassegrain?

Also I don't have a single refractor telescope yet (except for those finder scopes) you know. And I was wondering if I should probably save money up for a APO refractor maybe?

I heard that the APO's can correct for any 2 of the 3 primary colors. Which ones should I choose?

Thank you.
David

Many people choose Takahashi telescopes. I see a lot of big refractors used for imaging. Not cheap, but no-one ever complains of a lack of quality or performance.

You'll enjoy reading this and start thinking about what or who you can sell to make a purchase!

One of the best all time Apochromatic refractors made. Simple as that.
I would kill for a 6" Tak. I would grab this with both hands and run.........

David if you can buy a 6" Tak you won't regret it.
They are simply magnificent scopes.
A work of art and beautiful to behold.
You'll need a very sturdy mount though, the 6" Tak is a monster.

Just a few of the advantages:

- Less cool down time.
- Better colour correction.
- Holds it's collimation very well.
- Holds it's value.
- Views are exceptionally sharp.
- Exceptional build quality throughout.

Regards
Andrew

For those who have not viewed the first link, it takes you to a site where you have the option to purchase an almost $360K refractor.

Don't you just love the way that they suggest you "ADD TO CART"?

Geez, Eric, you know how to make someone cry!!!

That's a lotto win present, that one!!!

Seen this scope before...imagine having a 14 foot long tube!!!. This is large dome territory!!!!

Mind you, a 0.5x focal reducer on this piece of glass and you'd have a wicked wide field scope!!!!
