Wood lathes

I would like to "have a go" at wood turning. Only small jobs not huge ones.
Can anyone suggest a reasonable brand of wood lathe. Or maybe someone knows where there is a "cheapy" for sale.

dont buy a new one until you know what you want to do. DO NOT buy cheap tools, they dont hold their edge for more than a few minutes. ebay/classifieds or your local tip recycling place, lot of cheapie machines about after the fad wears off (50 -100$). Cheapie will give you something to play on before you get something better

OK I have found a couple of cheapies but they are too far away from here and the will not post.
I have used a wood lathe at work but they are not designed for small work they have a bed arounf 1.5 meters long and are not tooled for small work (chuck etc)

Hi Adrian,
This is a fantastic Australian site for getting info on all aspects of woodwork.

Like IIS it is a great place to learn and ask questions.

I've cut and pasted the specific woodturning forum, but there's every other kind of woodwork and carpentry too.

Oh, and one place to look at lathes is http://www.carbatec.com.au/woodturning-tools_c300 My fave shop besides Bintel.
They have a Brisbane store.

Hope this helps.

Or you could try building a pole lathe, my goal before Christmas.
