IC4628 widefield

Not overly happy about this one. I think it's due for a reshoot but that's all I could do with this data. I spent a fair bit of time trying to process it out so I might as well post it until I get something better.

There's a large version here . Taken Saturday long week-end as well between 6:00pm and 9:00pm - panels of 1h each with the ED80. Funky big blue cast in the shadows - probably too keen to start imaging straight away before it got fully dark.

So here it is. Shoot away.

Not too bad Marc - maybe you've just over-stretched it a little and brought out noise in the shadows? Maybe less might look a bit better here?

Perhaps not your greatest masterpiece but I think you're being a harsh, if it was mine I'd be happy as a pig in proverbial.

I noticed centered in IC4628 & over towards NGC6242 on the left are several extended pinkish stars, interestingly these coincide with infra-red sources on Simbad's database....well it was interesting for me anyway.

A nice big Gulf of Mexico prawn (minus the BP oil coating)! I like it!

Thanks Mike. The field's ok, I can't complain about the overall look . It's just this blue cast around the dark lanes. The data lacks dynamic range. No matter how hard I tried to curve or extract more it's a dead end. There's just not enough of it?

Thanks David. Yes I did stretch it hard to get some colors especially in the golden stars so had to push the greens and red up a bit. 2min subs wasn't enough for this one with the ED80 and the first half was shot in twilight. I'll know better next time.

Thanks Justin. Ermmm... yeah I think that might be my own doing

I did some very small spikes with starspike pro and it does colorise and saturate the stars halos a little so those little pink stars might be more yellowish in reality.

Looks OK to me Marc. Considering how much trouble we had getting onto it in the first place. Trevor got a narrower field shot that shows up more blue around the "prawn" and I made a texture for stellarium out of it.

Trevor's Running Chicken (ic2944) was a bit disapointing. It was too big for a single shot with the 8". All we got was a chicken roast ic2948 no head or legs. We will try it again next month.

Thats about the same FOV the 16803 would give you in one shot!

Cool - will have to check Trev's rendition then. Might be a bit of blue after all.

Humm...I'd lose the Photoshop star spikes....

Due it's size a fairly low brightness a tough object to do really well...(I for one have yet to do so). Not a bad effort.

Thanks Peter. I made them really really thin ...

Actually I did it because it brought a bit more colors in the big stars as I kind of (actually did) burn them out when trying to push this dark blue under. Faint indeed. Learnt my lesson and will plan better next time I attack this object.

This is a reduced image of what trevor got. There is quite a bit of blue. I don't think Trevor played with the colours other than to simply stretch the image.

Thanks Frank. I never imaged that one. I didn't realise it is quite faint and I wasn't too sure about the way the colors came up.

Come on Marc, this has turned out well indeed.
Nice golden colours to the stars and the vibrancy you've processed to them.
Would have loved to see that Glob Ngc 6321 to the R/H side in the fov, that would have been a bonus.
If anything, just slightly clipped a couple of dark areas.. but hey, areas with such a large diversity can be sometimes problematic.
Plus there's always an image that we spend so much time processing, that we begin to hate the sight of it... Well i do them move on to the next.

The spikes look quite good, but what what are you saying here, you want a big Newt???

Yep it's not that I don't like it it's that I hate it.

Reason is that I wasn't happy with this one, so I reprocessed the whole thing from scratch again using a different method and ended up with something similarly... worse. That just did it for me.
