Jupiter June 3rd prior & post impact

Hi All,
What an amazing week it has been with Bird visiting my observatory in Broken Hill. He was a great help in sorting out my Flea3 and we have captured some very good data but it was a very special moment to hear the woops and exclamations from Bird when the fire ball from the impact came up while he was capturing the red channel of a data set.

I have attached an RGB from 6 min's 29 sec's prior to the impact and another that was 4 min's 31 sec's after the impact.

It has been an incredible experience to be able to see how a true master of his art goes about his craft. From time to time, throughout each night we checked out each others setup and live feed and when we were both capturing data we were still close enough to be able to talk to each other.

I am so pleased for Bird, I have been telling him how good it is in Broken Hill and as it turned out, if he had stayed in Canberra it was raining and he would not have captured any data.

Very nice result Trevor.
It's probably a very important set of images that you have there!
Only minutes before and after impact! Wow!
Have you put them together as an animation on continuous play?
There may be something in your 2nd that is not in the first, not
noticeable until animated?

Thanks for that update Trevor. Must be great to have Bird onsite for a while during his odyssey. I'm sure you would have both had a ball even without this latest discovery.

2 fantastic Jup images. Just stunning. Had read how different is looking of late, and and agree these show it so well.

Very nice images Trevor. The detail looks 3D to me, which is something I have not notices before when viewing Jupiter images; they always just look flat.

Thanks Steve, John Rogers form the B.A.A. Jupiter section thinks he may have identified a spot on my post Jup that may be associated with Birds fireball. I have attached the image that he has labeled and sent back. It is probably just noise but I am sure when Bird gets back home he well check it out.

Thanks Rob, it was an absolute pleasure to spend some time with Bird. Chris Go has suggested I make up a plaque and fix it where Bird created history in my backyard.

Thanks very much Lester, for these images the seeing was very good to exceptional, my Jupiter images from this morning, however were in very ordinary to poor seeing and dont much resemble the images in this post.

For sure, the quality of the seeing is one of the major factors in how our images turn out.

Hi Trev its been a long time since we caught up and it seems alot has been happening on Jup.
Great set of images there and the processing seems spot on to me.
Glad to hear you had Bird drop by for a bit of observing and information exchanging.
Will catch up soon as this flood damage work at Camerons Corner is consuming all my time but we got to get the tourists through.

Thanks very much Kev, you certainly have been moving around, look forward to catching up. Will have to organize an observing night out the Nine Mile, Ray has been hanging out to try the Dob base that he made for his scope.

Chris Go reckons I should put a plaque in recognition of Birds "Worlds First" discovery, right where he had his scope setup. Might have to have a bit of a get together of our group when I do it and crack a can for a toast to Bird.

Trevor, looks like the seeing was similar to what I was getting. It was wobbling around a little and had that fast pulling action when slight out of focus. Not anywhere near ideal conditions but you know what that looks like no doubt. Considering Jupiter is not yet at quadrature the results we have obtained so far are quite good. I am hoping for some good seeing soon as the high pressure systems will start to move northward soon and my window of good seeing will close. Nice to see your images and looking forward to more.

Thanks very much Paul, I hope you get the conditions that you are seeking down there. I am looking forward to the highs tracking further inland and you could always come up to the Hill and do some imaging with me. There is not much room in our backyard but there is enough space to setup 1 rig on the slab where my observatory use to be.
