What a mess...

http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...07/2919796.htm

This nasty mess happened just down the road from me last night.
I heard something, but it was the endless procession of sirens that dragged me out of the house to investigate.

The road I live on is long and straight, and I probably hear 4 or 5 hoons a night doing 100k's+(in 60k zone) still accelerating as they leave a major side road(Parkin) and go past my house, I'm so used to it I hardly notice anymore.
But, then there's a gentle curve around a lake(Richmond), and a slight kink where Boundry road meets, gentle enough to keep the foot planted.
These guys got unstuck just after the kink.
The road is lined with old Peppermint tree's, anyone familiar with these will know they have very solid trunks, this one is around 1M(3feet) in Dia, it was not going to move a millimeter. Only damage is stripped bark.

Not a good day for the families

This will be all over the news tonight as every network was out there filming this morning.

That's really sad.

The road name's kind of ironic.

Ouch. You're quite right, very bad for the families.

It may not be appropriate but I couldn't help noticing the irony of the accident occurring on Safety Bay Road.

That is horrific. Gave me goosebumps looking at that pic. What struggles the families must be going through right now. Very, very sad.

It is so sad, but these young people just don't learn, totally bullet proof they reckon.

We had a similar one in Kal a couple years back. Only difference was, the street was dead straight and for those that aren't familiar with old mining town streets, it was 15m+ wide road.
Same deal, hsv ute, hits tree. 50m seperation of vehicle.
Only difference is the kids got out of the ute and walked away fine.
Freaky stuff.
