My Hats off too Carer's

Whether professional or for a love one they must have supreme patience and selflessness to put up with the demands placed on them by those in need

As you may know my wife suffers from MS which has over time caused severe mobility issues and disabled the left side of her body requiring her too use a crutch to aid in walking as well as having to wear a leg brace.

Thursday early evening in the simple act of bending over to pick up something she dropped she fell and broke her right humerus bone (a displaced fracture) and there is nothing funny about that aprt from the name.

She is right handed so cannot use her crutch for support herself and is in severe pain, so having to do everything for her and not being one of those blessed with the virtures of patience etc my hat goes off too those who have, this accident also reinforces the respect I have for my daughter who will shortly finish her nursing degree and has been working as a aged carer part time as well as doing her studies.

Yeah, I'm a carer on a carers pension. When I got with my GF who happens to have a degenerative spinal disorder (among other things) I had to weigh up weather to give up my 1K a week job, give up my house & accept the governments $600 per fortnight pension, it was a no brainer for me on what to do.

It's a real tough life, this caring let me tell ya, & sometimes I wonder who actually cares for the carers.

I'm not complaining, it was my choice & I don't regret it.

Carer's are extraordinary people.

Hope your wife's health picks-up Trevor.

I think health care in general calls for special people. Home-care would be a an especially tough gig.

Chin up Trevor, patience is a virtue which you have in abundance. It is tough caring for people when they have lost their mobility (I know I am a grumpy bugger when I have broken bones, very frustrating). She will soon be back on her feet.

Hi Trevor,

Hope all is well with your wife.

Without a doubt carers are the unsung heros of our community. Its a real shame neither the previous government or current are doing more than they can with the financial side of carers. In fact its an absolute farce.

If the loved ones are placed into public care, imagine the cost blowout over time? Yet carers are paid a pittance, they have no superannuation, annual leave, sick leave yet they take on the burden for their love ones.

Many carers have given up full time jobs, careers and self sacrifices and we should appreciate their efforts.

One day we could all be faced with the predicament of looking after a loved one and realise the challenges they face.

check the below link and consider the below over the major parties.

Sorry to hear of your wife's fall Trevor... Hoping she gets well soon...

My step-mother is currently the carer of her 21yr old special-needs daughter (my step-sister), once when i commented on how it must be hard for her, she commented that "seeing her face light up as she does or experiences something for the first time makes every arguement, tantrum and screaming match more than worth it"...

Personally, i think that, not only are the carers themselves a rare breed, it takes a special sort of person to make every moment of the care they give seem worthwhile, and the smallest of rewards seem invaluable.

Best wishes to you and your wife Trevor, be patient and look for the rewards, theyre there, and they'll make the recovery easier for you both.

Davin
